Jan 21, 2024 - Anyone who’s kicked off a redecorating or renovation project will quickly realise that there’s a lot more to creating a stylish interior than buying the latest must-have item or picking a new wall colour.
More than a way to experiment with trends (or impress your friends on Instagram), good interior design will help to ensure a space is functional as well as beautiful, and it will enhance the living experiences of the people who call it home.

April 5, 2017 - Humans, we're a self-obsessed lot and always have been. Artworks from the beginning of time depict human beings, and with that the body, in various states of undress. The latest feature exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery, The Body Laid Bare: Masterpieces from the Tate, brings us face to face with the work of a selection of master artists, and with ourselves.

Coming out of a grief-led creativity freeze, Botica says he feels stronger now than he ever believed possible and wants to pay tribute to his wife's support and passion for his work.
If you've ever admired a pebble mosaic in public Auckland, chances are, it was created by him.

June 7, 2024 - However pleased you are to arrive into a new abode, settling in can feel like a mission.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who, once the door has closed behind them at a new house, has looked around and wondered, 'Was this really such a good idea?'
A February 2023 study in the United Kingdom found that over half of respondents ranked moving house as the most stressful life event, more so than having a child, starting a new job, or going through a divorce.

If you’re looking for a home that’s palatial in proportions, position and nature, 27 Marine Parade, “the biggest section, on the best street in Herne Bay”, might just be it.
At 900m², the solid concrete villa conversion sprawls across a 2688m² cliff-top site looking out across the Waitematā harbour.
Redesigned over the last two years by leading New Zealand architects Fearon Hay, the home has been polished to perfection and yet, never lived in by the owners, Kurt and Makere Gibbons of NZ rich list fame.

July 12, 2017 - Optimistic and inspired mixed-media artist Fleur Woods creates beauty from the useful art of stitching.

"It kind of progressed, I've kind of always played around with mixed media and texture," said Woods.

April 21, 2017 - The art of war has come to the heart of the capital, right on time for Anzac Day 2017.
The exhibition Soldier's Five:A Veteran's Journey by artists Tim Wilson, Matt Gauldie, and Trevor Mills puts the experiences of soldiers returning from conflict zones directly under the public's noses.
That journey reflected in the works of the exhibition, is a progression the trio describe as one of transition and isolation, determination and hope.

Built by architect and later interactive drawing therapist Russell Withers to be his own home when he was just 30, the place’s very existence came down to luck, and talent.

April 12, 2024 - Yes, you might think that trending jade green would look fabulous in your bedroom, but what if it meant a longer sale time or a lower price for your house?
If you’re considering painting your home before going to sale, don’t pick up the paintbrush just yet ‒ according to experts, the colours you choose really do count.

When you think of the Swedish furniture giant Ikea, the shape that will most likely come to your mind is the quintessential Ikea chair is the Poäng.

The sophisticated Florence Knoll sofa is still in demand and bears the name of an extraordinary woman.
A natural designer who flourished despite tragic life circumstances, Florence Knoll’s impact on American modernism and interior design in general has been described as “immeasurable.”

Browse luxury homes or resorts and you'll notice a prevalence of white-on-white decor.
There's just something about the understated elegance of a room decked in tones of white. Even the colour-loving amongst us can usually agree monochrome looks good.
But outside of the expansive homes of Instagram, how do we make an all-white palette work in a conventional home? Is it even possible?

Floral trend followers on Instagram may have noticed an unconventional new trend emerging - freakebana.
A term coined by writer Stella Bugbee of New York publication The Cut, the bizarre arrangement style is taking off in high-fashion circles of the Big Apple.
A play on the word 'ikebana', the Japanese term for the disciplined art form of floristry, freakebana involves using unlikely materials to create an avant-garde display.

Proclaiming the world's 'colour of the year' since 2000, in recent years Pantone has become a brand all of its own.
Call them savvy tastemakers or the colour police, two things are for sure - they love colour and they know how to make themselves heard.
But do these faceless gurus driving trends (at least on social media) really interpret the zeitgeist? Or are their picks just self-fulfilling prophecies thanks to an exponential marketing campaign?

At the very end of Point Chevalier Rd, overlooking the waters of the Waitemata harbour, Donna Mills' house gives the impression of a floating island citadel. It's early afternoon and Mills is waiting on her balcony, looking like Katharine Hepburn, with her eyes closed, the tops of the park's palm trees swaying lightly around her. A former champion athlete and now a business woman, spiritual healer, and devoted mother to grown children, Mills is also our unofficial first lady of rock 'n roll. Having lived as both wife and friend alongside the titan figures of the late Dave McArtney and Graham Brazier, founders of Hello Sailor.
